Is there a cost to the cadet?

There is no tuition associated with the program.  Meals and uniforms are provided free of cost.  Basic clothing items and personal hygiene items are the responsibility of the students.

How do I apply?

All applicants must fill out the application and attend an  interview.  Application should be turned in at the interview site.   Interview sites are listed on the back of the current class application.  Applications can be obtained on the website on the how to apply menu or you may request one by calling1-800-CAMP KID.

What ages do you accept?

Students must be between the ages of 16 and 19 years on the start date of the program.  Students may not turn 20 years of age before graduation.

When can I visit my cadet?

There are 2 designated family days that family and friends may visit on campus.  In addition cadets get two passes home.  These dates and more details will be provided when your child is accepted into the program.

Do all cadets get their GED while in residence?

Students work towards their GED.  When they meet state requirements they are given the opportunity to take the test.  Not all students take the test in residence.  Some must continue their preparation after the residential phase.  Most students increase their academic grade level equivalence three to four grades in the 5 month residential phase.

Can my child go back to high school after YCP?

Your child will be working on his GED and will not earn regular high school credits while at YCP.  Most graduates enroll at an adult education center or technical college if they need to continue work towards their GED.  However, specific questions regarding this should be addressed with their school's guidance counselor.

Is there a military obligation associated with the program?

No.  The program is run by the National Guard however, there is no military obligation associated with the program.

Can students join the military after the program?

The military is an option for YCP graduates as long as they meet the qualifications required by the different branches of the military.  All students will take the ASVAB and will be exposed to many career opportunities including the military.
