Through training, discipline and mentoring, the New Mexico Youth ChalleNGe Academy provides the education, leadership, character development and life coping skills to New Mexico's "at risk" youth so they may become successful adults.

How to Apply

We are very glad you have chosen to
apply for acceptance into our program.
This is the first step toward changing your life! 

We are now accepting application for Cycle 18  - please read about ALL requirements listed below!  Cycle 18 begins Saturday, January 16, 2010. (the 1st two weeks will be in Santa Fe-see info at bottom of this page).  Deadline for COMPLETE applications is Friday, December 18!

Please follow the steps listed below in order to be considered for acceptance: 

(STEP 1)
Download the Cadet Application Checklist (Microsoft Word Document) and the Cadet Application (Microsoft Word Document).
*NEW REQUIREMENT: All applications MUST include three (3) letters of reference for the applicant!
Be sure to complete all required documents, have the required page notarized, and mail to:

Only complete applications will be accepted! We can accept fax copies, but need the 'original' Power of Attorney and Physical Examination form.

(STEP 2)
Attend an orientation with at least one parent/guardian. Attendance at one of our orientations is MANDATORY.  Refer to our Orientation Page for the one nearest to you.  An interview will be conducted by a staff member of NMYCA.  An overview of our Academy will be given and any questions will be answered at the orientation.

(STEP 3)
Download the Mentor Application (Microsoft Word Document) and ask your Mentor to complete all pages and mail to:

All accepted candidates should report to PreChalleNGe at the National Guard Headquarters in Santa Fe, New Mexico on Saturday, January 9, 2009.  Please click here to download directions & maps to your new home for the first two weeks: Directions & Map to PreChalleNGe (Microsoft Word Document).

New Mexico Youth ChalleNGe Academy staff will transport all candidates chosen to transition into the ChalleNGe phase to Roswell after the first two weeks of PreChalleNGe.  Cadets will then complete their remaining 20 weeks at the NMYCA campus in Roswell.  Each family day and graduation will also be held in Roswell.  Click "News & Events" throughout the cycle for more information about family days.
