The mission of the West Virginia Mountaineer ChalleNGe Academy is to train and mentor selected at-risk youth to become contributing members of society using the 8 Core Components in a quasi-military environment during a 22-week residential and one year follow-up Post-Residential program.

Training Dates

 Mentor Training Dates

Mentor Day is a one day training event required by all mentors. Mentors need to attend only one of these training dates. The Mentor Training Schedule for Class 1-2010, running from January 17 to June 18, 2010 is as follows:

  • Friday- Feb. 19
  • Saturday- Feb. 20
  • Friday- Feb. 26
  • Saturday- Feb. 27
  • Friday- March 5
  • Saturday- March 6

If you are a mentor and have not registered for one of these training classes, please call 1-800-529-7700 to get registered.

In order to serve as a volunteer mentor for the Mountaineer ChalleNGe Academy all mentors must attend one of these training sessions and complete the background check (fingerprints and reference). This class will answer many of your questions about mentoring and the Mountaineer ChalleNGe Academy.  But even more than a requirement, Mentor Training Day is a day the Cadets look forward to by spending time with you, their mentor. 

All classes will be held at Camp Dawson in Kingwood and will run from 9:30-2:30.  Once the Mentor Application is received a Mentor packet with Training Schedule and General Information, Directions, Fingerprint Card and Reference Response Forms will be mailed to all applicants.
